All,

I just bought a 85 740, the car has been sitting for 9 years!!!, in anycase, i dropped the tank,cleaned,flushed,Replaced the sending unit as it was rusted out. Replaced the main Fuel Pump,Cap,Rotor,Wires,Plugs. The issue I am seeing is the car is idling very rough and when i give it some gas it miss fires and has no power and and will not idle up and seems to be gasping for FUEL. I read some places that the temp sensors can be an issue, so i unplugged both of the sensors and i was able to get the motor to rev up, but still with a pretty bad miss fire or cut-out... any suggestions ?? Also on a side note is there a way to manually pull codes.. not sure where or how..

Update:
So i tested the new sending unit and found that the tank pump is not pumping.. would this cause the symptoms..

 

Not sure and I might be 100% wrong, but I had hella misfires codes on my 850. Changed my MAP/ MAF amd it went away no problem. Ill do more search on the 85 year, dont think it has a MAP but it might.

 

Checked it out, look at your MAF sensor right after your intake box. Since its been sittin for so long that MAF is probably dirtier then a woman of the night. Clean her up with some CRF mass air flow cleaner from autozone or oriellys. If your still having a problem try and replace it. Any check engine light?

no check engine lights, when i unplug the MAF, the car will hardley even run. I will go by autozone in AM and buy some cleaner and see if that helps out.. will keep you posted.. do you know if there is a way to see if there are any codes.. if so where can i pull them from..

 

Update:
1: Cleaned MAF.
2: found back pickup pump not working, now it is.
3: still have a miss fire but alot better then it was before.
4:car seems to be running very very rich, gives off black smoke..

suggestions ???
