I have an '85 240 DL and I'm trying to fix the A/C in it. I bought a recharging kit, but it's for an R-134 type air conditioning system. What type of A/C system is in a 1985 240 DL?

 

Your 240 is R-12.

But can be converted to R-134.

You will have to drain the R-12 oil from the system and install Ester oil and add the R-134a fitting and recharge.

If you take it to a shop they will also want to replace the High side hose. It is a good idea but not a Must.

 

Ok, we'll see if I can do that. Might you off hand know of any good step-by-step instructions to do that? I'm not overly familiar, as you can tell, with my car's A/C system. I did discover yesterday that the nozzle on the end of the recharge kit hose does not fit the valve on the A/C system line. Can I get an adapter for that, or get a replacement valve?
