GEARBOX HELP

I have a Volvo 440 1.8i M reg im finding it very hard to select 1st and 2nd gear it has to be forced in.All other gears perfect can anybody tell me what could cause this???

Not many 440's on this side of the pond since they weren't intended for the US market. You might want to look up Volvo club UK, I think they had some links to 4xx series fan sites and forums.
