The fan of the inside warming system on my 240 broke down. In Norway that is a very expensive repair considering the whole dashboard has to be removed. A repair that is maybe just as costly as the value of the car.

It is Winter in Norway now and it takes about 3 kilometers before the heating system starts removing condensation/ice partticles from the front window. That is dangerous driving. Is there any other way of solving this problem without that expensive repair ? A fan installed on the dashboard ? In Norway they sell electric warming elements with fan for cars, but they only run on 220V (for preheating before leavng). Or some spray product on the inside of the window ?

 

Well take heart I just changed out the heater fan on my '87 240. was a lot of work, but I got it done and I am glad I did. Car is a whole lot quiter now. New fan works great! great time ti change out dash light bulbs. If I can do the job so can you. There are a couple of Youtube videos on how to do it. I didn't bother to remove the front seats, and still I had enough room to work. You WILL need a bent pick a tool like a scribe that has a bend on the tip for removing those impossible to see spring clips that go around the heater motor covers. Good luck and let us know how you did.
Here in the USA. the new fan costs $38.00 to have a shop do the whole job? I was told $800

 

Hello, thanks for the reply ! In the mean time I found a small blower and heater I mounted on the dashboard, but that's only a temporary solution.
In Norway it would cost approximately 1300 $ ! Car maintenance shops are incredibly expensive here, so I will do it myself. How much time did it take ?

 

I took my time, a few hours each day for a total of 3 day, so about 3 to 4 hours a day, as I had never done this job before. I broke the black plastic side covers on the heater motor cover trying to get them off, as they had a couple of hidden clips. That is why I said get a tool with a bent time to snap off the hidden clips and mark all of your wires! either use tape or take LOTS of pictures. So your from Norway? Great! My dad was from Skara Sweden. God bless and lots of luck it's not that bad a job. I replaced my parts from a local junk yard for about $20
