Default Probably A Silly Question...

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with the installation/removal of car alarms. My 1998 V70 T5 came with a factor alarm... but with the stereo system, minor engine work, suspension work, and late model R rims, I want to install a high end Viper or Clifford alarm system (with 2-way paging, autostart, shock sensor, and all the goodies). I work as a Ford diesel technician, so I consider myself fairly handy when it comes to figuring stuff out... but car alarms are one thing I've always tried to stay away from! I'm pretty sure I could get it installed, and get it to work, but my main fear is that cutting and splicing wires from the stock alarm system might prevent the vehicle from starting. Anyone have any experience with this? Any help wold be greatly appreciated!
