What a great thread, I am grateful too, I copied almost all of these numbers and details down and now have a great list (resource to refer to ongoing). I need one tomorrow as it happens, my emissions light has come on (I read an online manual to find out what it is and the reasons, my fuel cap is on tightly so it's not that!), but I did recently have my car serviced after purchasing it from a previous owner, though his mechanic was dodgy for giving a false safety test pass when within a week my car died only for CAA to point out to me it was a switch popping off the accelerator link (cheap fix) but what they found on the routine service at the garage wasn't (the main issue), a broken left side (drivers side) axle. I was livid, putting mine and my 3 yr olds life in danger as I view it, not like I could check under the car easily as you can't get under the car unless car is in the air, hence I knew once it was pointed out to me at the auto mechanic. I don't call $624 cheap though! I need to report the last owners mechanic to MOT for passing it falsely too, even though the car is safe now at my expense, grrrr. I didn't drive it much since purchase and viewing it after and noticing the steering wheel always pulling to the left, they must have known about that issue the criminals.

This light that is coming on now, emissions light, I read needs a code read and reset, likely done free via a volvo mechanic (after car was serviced and battery was tested by CAA and the garage I used in emergency), any one know if they do that reset and check for free?

Default Anyone in east GTA?

Hi all,

Hopefully a soon-to-be 240 owner. I both went to kindergarten in one growing up, and drove my first girlfriend around in the same car, so it definitely had various meanings, mostly important, in my formative years!

Most people are recommending mechanics deep in Toronto or beyond (west)... can anyone recommend a good Volvo guy in Durham Region?

honestly, for 240s specifically, if you want someone who literally knows every single bolt by heart on a 240, it's worth the drive to Auto Service Plus at 865 Richmond Street West downtown toronto. the owner is usually around evenings and saturday, so you can drop by after normal 9-5 work hours. also, before you buy, i'd highly recommend at least a pre-purchase inspection at Auto Service Plus so you know what you're getting into. at this point every 240 on the road will have regular maintenance and repair needs, so you'll want to have an expert check things out. ~a fellow 240 ('90 wagon) owner

1 four 0 nine (1407 bloor st w) did several jobs on my s40 t5 over the years and I liked his work and his prices! I'm pretty sure this thread is where I first heard of them too.
He even did the AC clutch fix without asking WTF I was talking about

Hey if anybody has a 05+ T5 with the 320mm rotors (AWD models have them standard). I've got some unused Monroe bake pads for the front that I will give away for free. Bought them 4years ago but I had the 300mm rotors and didn't realize it until the mechanic (from the above post) tried to put them in 2 weeks ago.
You gotta pick them up in northwest Brampton if interested

Default The Volvo Guys in Toronto rule

This is by far the best, by far, hands down, bar none, and least expensive means of maintaining your Volvo.

Volvos are already exponentially better than America cars and can be maintained for even less if you use experienced pros like the Volvo Guys. Awesome work, unbelievable prices.

Imagine buying a $1,600 alloy rim for only 50 bucks for example, engines, trannies, little items that costs hundreds at the dealer for only a few bucks, lights, body parts, etc., name it, they have it, and there is no better way to go saving many many thousands in Volvo ownership. a luxurious a durable machine renown for its safety.

Default Will having my car serviced at a garage void my warranty?

HI all,

I just wanted to say that I find this forum absolutely amazing and its a great place for Volvo owners to learn about their car and meet other Volvo enthusiasts.

I am the owner of a 2010 S80 T6 AWD that I recently purchased from a Volvo dealership in the Toronto area six months ago. The car had 117,000 kms when I purchased it 6 months ago and it came with the Volvo Pre-Owned Certified warranty. The warranty has already come in handy as I've had to change a blower, the windshield washer reservoir (tank) and a washer fluid hose to the front headlight.

Soon, it'll be time for service on the vehicle. (it would be the 132,000 kms service, as I have 128,500 on my vehicle now). I was wondering if any one knows if I must have the service done at a dealership if I want the Pre-Owned Certified warranty to remain intact? I have about another 1 year and 3 months on the Certified Pre-Owned warranty and I also purchased the Volvo VIP warranty to 200,000 kms for another 2 years after the Pre-Owned Certified expires. If I get the service/maintenance done at a private garage (I'm thinking of going to Auto Service Plus, it seems highly recommended), will this void my warranty (both the Pre-Owned Certified and/or the Volvo VIP)?

Any advice or replies would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

Does anyone know what happened to the Volvo Guys shop? Website and phone number no longer work, google says they're permanently closed. They had such a great collection of Volvo parts, I wonder where it all went if they actually went out of business.

I have a 2008 XC70 that needs a new serpentine belt and possible water pump, had a good experience with them previously, now need to find a new volvo mechanic for the job.

The Volvo Guys changed their name to the V-Guys just before they closed shop. So yes, they "actually went out of business".

A general car wreckers business just off of Weston Rd., bought their phone number. This wreckers will answer if you let it ring long enough but they do not seem to have anywhere near as many Volvo parts (if any at all). Didn't even have a used caliper when I called. You can try anyway but if they don't have it try Cookstown Auto Wreckers or Hwy 9 Auto Wreckers before all the others for Volvo parts.

There are also many mechanics in the city although finding a good one might be tough no matter what one drives. There is Paul's Service Center at 350 Weston Road or Brindle Auto Repair at 640 Rogers Road (just around the corner from Paul's) Brian at Brindles's was a Volvo mechanic so he is as good as the Volvo Guys /V-Guys were. Brindle is a great alternative knowing the Volvo and having tons of Volvo parts too. Ask for Brian. Brindle is as good as it gets now although Paul's is a larger shop but also great for larger repairs and alignments, etc.

Shop til you drop and don't test the scruples of most of just any mechanic needless to say. Get a good one, which may be tough, and always ask for estimates before giving the OK. Don't quote me on the references but these are the guys I'd use now that the V-Guys are gone.

Brian at Brindle should have tons and tons of parts too but if not try the top 4 auto wreckers as the Volvo/ V-Guys use to clear out their inventory when they were around so you should have a lot more success there too for parts.

Good luck.

My how times have changed.

Scratch Brindle. its a matter of costs and competence. The many people I sent there are coming back on me with nightmare stories. I can no longer refer this place with good conscience.
I also feel bad for recommending Paul's who's alignments eat tires.

I use Altech in Etobicoke now. Unlike these two nightmares.
Jim at Altech if fair and his shop is competent for all makes, European and domestic.

There are mountains of positive reviews raving about Alteach's alignments and he is very busy for good reason. Altech is top notch repaitr shop that will not destroy and gouge like so many others being hard to find a good mechanic. I can think of no better right now and when I do, I will come back to update again.

Default Volvo Oakville Dealership and Services

Even with a Volvo under warranty there are challenges to do maintenance, not only because of cost but also because rude dealership personnel, particularly in Oakville.
Watch if you like Volvo vehicles, in Volvo Oakville Dealership you may become a persona-non-grata if you go there for a test drive but do not proceed with the purchase. Personnel there are very sensitive if you "waste" there time. Suggest avoiding that dealership and service

I called "volvo guys" of Toronto today and they told me that they just sell parts now, no service at all. I am still looking for a good shop in SOUTHERN ONTARIO which will change my turbocharger on 2016 VOLVO X90.
