Default blown timing belt s40

Hello my friend threw a timing belt on his 08 s40 what would be the first step to see if engine has been damaged. We replaced belt and set timing but motor seems to have no compression. And will only give a little pop once in a while while trying to start. I was hoping someone may know steps to decide if the motor is damaged.

Thank you in advance

Lack of compression sadly points to the likely fact that the valves have been bent when the timing belt went.
Hopefully no serious piston damage has occured.
You need to do a leakage test as stated by ES6T first up to confirm.

I think that its a waste of time doing a leakdown test/ compression test. The valves are bent and pistons maybe damaged. You either need a new head or motor.

I would pull the head, check the conditions of the pistons. If the pistons are good, then I would buy a used head or have a shop rebuild mine.

-or-

Buy a used engine.

A blown TB = Bent valves/damaged psitons
