Default First Oil Change

I've got a several week-old S40 T5 with about 1400 miles on it. I've heard some people say to change the oil and filter within the first 1500 miles, and I've also heard you don't have to. I guess my question is, should I get it changed now or wait until 7500 miles like Volvo recommends?

Thanks for the help.

When mass production techniques were less precise & tolerances were wider, it was recommended to change the oil & filter at around 1,500 miles.

European manufacturers such as Volvo no longer recommend an early change as any pieces of metal detaching from the engine will be smaller/finer than they would have been under old manufacturing techniques & should be caught in the oil filter or on the sump drain plug magnet without damaging the engine.

I'm old-fashioned, so personally I would do the change around 1,500 miles & certainly by 3,750 miles. Any later than 3,750 & Volvo will be draining new oil out & throwing away a new filter at the 7,500 mile service.

Thanks for the advice. I'll probably get it done between 3500 and 5000.

Thanks again.

Cheers
