Default 08 xc90 first oil change

Hi,

I recently got a 08 XC90 and i need to do the 1st oil change. I was looking at what I needed and it says the engine uses 7.7L of oil. Do i replace the 7.7L.? Or will only 5 come out that need to be replaced?

Should i go full synthetic or synthetic blend?

Thank you for your help!

7.7 liters seems like to much. I put in 7-7.5 quarts normally when I change oil on a v8

My wife's 07 XC90 with the 3.2L 6-cyl takes 8 qt (US), with filter change. This is approx. 7.7 L. All of this will come out if let it drain for 10 min or so. I generally use a genuine Volvo filter, but I have on hand a WIX 57806 to use for the next change. (I've been told this is a good filter.) It's also a good idea to use a fresh aluminum crush washer.

I have used various Mobil1 full synthetic oils from the first change. Now I use Mobil1 Extended-Performance 5W-30 and have it changed once a year or 12,000 miles whichever comes first. But there are other grades of full synthetic which may be as good or better depending on your local climate. I have used Mobil1 0W-40, which however does not come in Extended Performance. When the vehicle was in warranty I changed at the specified interval (7,500 miles?) but since then I have it changed yearly. I think an interval of 7500 miles should be used for standard non-synthetic oil, but I thinks it's a waste of full synthetic to change it at 7500 miles.

The 3.2 takes 7.7 quarts in 2008.
The V8 is 7.1 quarts.

Synthetic or not, I personally would not go beyond 7500 miles.
You might be alright if they are all highway miles, but I've seen plenty of people come in with 7500 stop and go miles and it is very dirty, even with synthetic. Synthetic oils are not intended to extend the service interval. Trying to be cheap and save a couple bucks by pushing those limits can cost a whole lot more later.
