1992 960
Hi everyone, My name is Mike and I just adopted a free 1992 860. It seems like an awesome car and is in great shape, but I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on maintainence or what I need to do to keep it running good .I live in a snowy climate in the winter, it's icy most of the time. How do these cars do on ice? Would studded tires be better than all seasons? This seems like a great site, I am stoked to be a member!

RE: 1992 960
I have a 93, and I have had my timing belt switched over to the newer 70k design. Unless you've got the tools, you're going to want a mechanic to do the timing belt. The serpentine belt/just about everything else is fairly easy to work on on these cars. There is a lot on info to help you out with almost anything on this site, brickboard.com and the matthews's volvo site. As far as snow goes, I live in Montana during the winter and have driven my car through just about every type of snow imaginable. I had all-seasons for one winter and it was OK. Not fun when things got icey. Now I use studded snow tires all around, and with the winter mode and the locking rear differential, I can go anywhere anyone with 4x4 can go.
