2001 Volvo S80
So I bought this S80 about three years ago for my wife. It has been a lemon. New front O2 sensors replaced twice and the check engine light still on, throttle assembly cleaned, got refunded for that, heating coil replaced, turbo needs replaced but it is at 80k so that is expected, now the piece of junk gets stuck in park all of the time even when not on a hill. Please, any suggestions would be greatly appreicated. Perhaps some out there have had the same problems and found an easy fix. Thanks

RE: 2001 Volvo S80
Hi John,
I'm sorry about the problems that your S80 has been giving you & your wife.
O2 sensors seem to fail way too often on European makes; generally they use Bosch's sensors and Bosch still doesn't seem to found a cure for the problem (but aftermarket sensors are even worse). Also, Check Engine Light turns on on Volvos way too often, regardless of models.
The shifter getting stuck in Park, in 850's case, is usually the faulty PNP/Micro switch, which are not that expensive or difficult to replace. Many people have been happy with the following vendor:

Their stock seems bleak on S80, but call them to see if they carry parts you need, as they carry OEM & high-quality aftermarket parts and they may have the partsand just haven't updated their web site.
Also, make sure that you're following the scheduled maintenance stated in the owner's manual. Lastly, search for recalls against S80 and have them fixed at the dealer's expense.
I'm puzzled as to why they had to replace the turbocharger. As long as oil management has been followed (at every 3,000 miles/4~5 months), a turbocharger should last a lot longer than 80k. Turbochargers on 850s usually last past 200,000 miles or longer, as long as good oil management has been done.
Also, post this question in the S80 section. I'm an 850 driver and am not that knowledgeable on S80s.
Good luck,
JPN
