85 240 main fuel pump no power
I have replaced both fuel pumps, and relay on my 1985 240 dl wagon. In tank pump runs, but the main pump does not. Fuses are good, wires seem okay, even checked the 25 fuse under the hood near the battery.
When I initially bought the car it was having a stale issue. So I assumed it was the main fuel pump. I replaced the bosch pump with some garbage I picked up at auto zone. I had to clip the original connectors off and install the ones for the garbage. Six months later started having the same problem. Car would die, especially around 50 mph, I would bang on the pump with a wrench and the car would fire back up. Thats when I realized the in tank pump was most likely bad. So I did as I said up top. When I replaced the garbage pump with the new Bosch pump I also had to replace the connectors. ( which you can not find new ) Anyways put the original connectors back on and now no power to the pump. I am officially pissed. Anything helps before I break down a call a mechanic. Thanks.

Okay the car started, and sounded great. I could hear both pumps humming away. Then I could smell gas. Sure enough a river was forming under the car. One of the lines that comes from the in tank pump, ( not the line that goes to the main pump, I think its the return line) was pulled away from the first connection it makes from the pump. I then remembered that this line was a pain to remove when I replaced the in tank pump. It seems to have an inner hard plastic tube surrounded by a rubber hose. I had to slice into the inner tube to remove it from the pump connection. When I re-installed it to the pump connection I used a hose clamp to secure it. Now the end that is leaking has the same things going on. So I clamped it the same way and the car wont start.

I replaced the return hose from the in tank pump. Still have nothing. Its strange how it started and ran when it was leaking gas. I did notice water spurting from the exhaust but im almost positive it was just condensation. It didnt smell sweet or feel greasy. I am stuck again. I could really use some advise. Thanks.
