855 Alternator Pulley, How To Change

Default 855 Alternator Pulley, How To Change

I have successfully removed the old alternator from my Volvo 855 wagon. Unfortuantely, the new alternator doesn't have an accessory belt pully on it's power shaft. If I can't change the accessory belt pulley, it doesn't do any good to install the new one. Can anyone give me an idea of the proper procedure, facilities, and tools required, to:

a) remove the pulley from my old Volvo 855 Alternator without damaging it,

and how to

b) install the undamaged pulley on my new Volvo 855 Alternator?

Help, Anyone?

I used it to rebuild my Power steering pump. You can rent it at autozone and get a full refund when you return it.

You need an impact gun to remove the nut from the Alt. shaft. Then the pulley will slide right off. Then install it on the new one and tighten with the impact gun and done.

I will look into the pulley puller, but the web page you referred me to indicates that it is a Power Steering Pump puller. I have one of these, and it will not work on the this alternator. The pulley on this machine is bolted down to the shaft of the alternator. It is loosening this nut that I am having difficulty doing.

Thanks for the reference. I will see what autozone has to say about this issue.

Is there a way of locking the alternator's rotor during the loosening and tighening process. Without this, the shaft will be free to spin, and the nut will never loosen or tighten.

It might damage it beyond repair. Or they might not give you your core money back. Maybe see if Autozone will do it for you or rent the battery impact from them.
