I've never had this happen. I checked the the pulley was on flush. could it just need new bushings???

Yes the bushings - the two under the alternator but also the one on the engine that the tensioner arm attaches to.

I replaced all 3 bushings and it didn't help, I had to wedge something between the pulley and the bracket while tightning the bottom (long) bolt.

This is so odd to me, now other car (that I know of) has this issue.

Default One more.

I have got an 86 240 GL. The tensioner arm looks like it might have a slight bend in it. It also seems to be somewhat loose on the bushing. Any idea where to get new or replacement tensioning blocks and bolts?
