Hi,
My 2012 XC60 AC makes a whirring noise that changes as I accelerate. It's same as the video below. Notice the noise at 00:18 or 00:28 when the AC is turned on.
What's causing this? Some said thermal expansion valve and one said it's electronic control valve. How to fix it?

 

Hi. I saw that you had a noise coming from the AC. I´m having the same issue in my 2012 S60 T6. Did you fix the problem? Or did you find what was causing the sound? Any help would be appreciated.

 

Can't view the you tube - but my 2015 xc70 t6 had a noise and the low side hose was rep[laced under warranty to fix it. And a buddy has a 2011 xc90 with that engne and makes the same noise mine did - his car is out of warranty so he is living with the noise.

 

Did the noise change with the RPM? Mine does, from 800 RPM to about 2500 RPM. It growls pretty loud and it stops when I switch the A/C off, so its not the blower motor. I don't want to let it unattended because some people say once the sound starts, the compressor eventually stops working. I know there was a TSB that said it was a stuck valve or something but don't know precisely.

 

If it's a growl I would use a stethoscope and try to isolate where the noise is coming from - certainly a compressor going bad (due to lack of lubrication or internal failure) can make growling noises.
