Airbags/SRS
I took my wife's 2012 XC90 to the dealer for service last week. The original complaint was a non working parking brake. They fixed that by adjusting the cable and advising that the cable was stretched due to excessive use and the parking brake was not really needed anymore. Note that I paid over $400 for the cable adjustment, that I learned later is about a 1 hour job.
And then, they scanned the car for codes and discovered the SIPS in the driver's seat was throwing a code. Reportedly the code "had been in there for a long time." When we took the car in there was no warning light or message. There is now. They could not explain to me how if the code was there why the warning light never came on. I declined the opportunity to pay $1000 to have the airbag replaced but now have a warning light and a message that the SIPS is not working.
None of this makes sense to me. And when I look at the service manual I see that the cable adjustment is in the same (sort of) general area as the air bag control module.... The cynic in me wonders if a wire got nicked or disconnected.
Any thoughts are appreciated. Especially from a Volvo tech.
Thanks
