Default Battery dead...How do I open the trunk

I have a 2002 S60 AWD with a dead battery...I think. We open the trunk with our remote but all is dead and I can't get the lid open. Does anyone no how to get access?

Default RE: Battery dead...How do I open the trunk

From the Owner's Manual:

Opening the trunk from the inside (U.S. models only)
The S60 is equipped with a florescent handle on the inside of the trunk lid, which can be used in an emergency situation to open the trunk from the inside. Pull the handle down to release the trunk lid.
This handle is not intended to be used to anchor the trunk lid when long loads are being transported.

There is also a black cover to the right of the Handle remove the black cover and use the key.

Default Easy Fix

Look where you reach under to unlatch the trunk. On one side of the long button you will see a roundish rubber thing. Take that rubber thing off and the keyhole is under it. Hope this helps

Isn't that primarily for if you are locked in your own trunk and want to get out?
To get in the trunk he would have to fold the seats down and crawl through, but the latch to fold the seat down is in the trunk over the tail lights, right?

I am am not referring to the emergency release latch inside the trunk. The thing I am talking about is on the outside of the trunk. It is located near where you put your hand to open the trunk normally if the battery was not dead. Normally you would push the trunk button on the remote and the reach under to release the catch to open the trunk. The thing that I am referring to is to the side of the catch release button. It's sort of roundish and is rubber. It's not very big. Just simply remove this rubber cover and you will expose the keyhole for the trunk. All you need to do now is insert the key into the keyhole and turn. The trunk can then be opened. There is no reason to try to get into the trunk to pull the emergency release. Especially since the only way to fold down the back seats are release pulleys inside the trunk. Bad design idea. I hope this explains in detail what I was trying to explain earlier.

Wasn't qouting you Angels, you did indeed give a correct answer.

I thought it was clear I was referring to the reply of billofdurham.

BTW - The glow in the dark handle really is for people who get locked in their trunk! And it became mandatory in 2002.

Here, read the reason why: There's an Escape Release in Car Trunks Due to One Woman Kidnapped and Locked in Hers | Atlas Obscura

Would have saved some anxiety when I was in high school and we would sneak into drive-in theaters (look it up) in the trunk so that only one person -the driver - would pay. There was always the fear that the driver might be a smart-*** and leave us in there until after the movie.

I diconnected the battery and then my son closed the trunk. We do not have access to the trunk now. Please let us know how we can still provide enough power without the battery to the car in order to open the trunk. Thank you!

do you still have access to the cabin so you can open the hood? there's jumper terminals under the hood.

I opened the little compartment where the key hole is for the trunk and twisted with the masterkey... Nothing happens I twisted for a minute and nothing opened... Is there any way to solve this/get in the trunk

Twist it counter clockwise to open. The opposite to lock.

Were you able to open the trunk? I have a 2020 S60 and can’t find the key hole either. Is there one for my model? If so, do I have to remove the rubber hand latch first? So frustrating. TY
