Question Body shop or Dealer?

Bought my first volvo, a low mile 2017 xc60, last year. Absolutely love it and have put well over 15K highway miles on it already. Not sure I'll ever buy anything else considering how it rides. Got a great deal on it somehow and went for the extended warranty since I was a little nervous to buy something so technically advanced. Electrical issues have bitten me previously.

I clumsily ran over a wooden planter in my parking lot. The beast just ran right through and over it. Wheel well guard was torn off and the front quarter panel bent out just a bit at the rear seem with the door. A little damage to the front under grill, but nothing big.

My question to all of you hear is, should I take this to the dealer I bought it from, or just go to a good body shop? I know the dealer is going to be WAY more expensive, but is there a reason I should go that route?

Any insight you have would be greatly appreciated.

Most dealerships do not do bodywork - they will just farm it out to a body shop if they accept your car.

Take the car to the body shop of your choice and call your insurance. If this was something in the road that could not be avoided it may be covered under your comprehensive coverage, usually with a smaller deductible.

the thing you should research is where the parts get sourced. As your insurance to see if they cover the shop using Genuine Volvo parts vs anything available from aftermarket suppliers.

Appreciate the input. Realized my dealer didnt do bodywork after posting, but got the name of an outfit they recommend. I'll make sure they use OEM parts.

Have a great weekend everyone.
