Default Lease up in May '09, planning to buy, Can I get it Volvo certified by a dealer?

Hi all,

I have tried to search this forum with keywords from the subject question. So far haven't found any post on the specific topic.

I am planning to call around the dealers in Maryland and Virginia to check on the following scenario. Any comments from the volvo enthusiasts will be of big help.

So here is the scenario.

-I drive a leased 2005 S60 T5. It runs great. No major issues at 47K miles.
-My lease will be up in a couple of months.
-I am planning to buy the car at the end of the lease. (lease end price is ~$14600 + some fees).
-Can I (or should I) pay some money to a dealer to get the car volvo certified before I buy it?
-If you have tried the same route, what kind of fees were charged by the dealer?

Thank you all for your help.

You're going to have to talk to your salesperson on that one. Certification involves the dealer doing the 130 point inspection, or whatever it is. Then Volvo backs the car. There are two things to consider. First, the dealer won't be making too much money of this sale. The car isn't owned by it; but rather by the leasing entity. Second, the inspection costs the dealer money, assuming they really do the job.

The leasing entity probably doesn't want the car back, that's in your favor.
While not Volvo, a friend last year bought his leased GMC truck for less than
the purchase option price as GMAC really didn't want pick up trucks last summer. He went to the dealer and there was a program where he paid most
recent wholesale price, plus a couple hundred dollars. Thousands cheaper than the purchase option price. Since he knew the truck from new, he wasn't concerned about warranty issues.

Will Volvo do such a deal? Unless you ask, you'll never know. And remember that the dealer won't encourage it so you'll have to be persistent. They'll want something for their trouble.

Default buy the leased car

Hi there
Just wanted to say,we did the same, purchased the car at the end of the lease. If you really like the car ..do it..but shop around for good finance rates.
Don't forget, they are going to"stick it to you" with a sales tax which is pretty high here in CA where we are.Have the S80..like it a lot..it's 2003 nothing major yet..knock on wood.
Good luck
