Ack!! Very bad car day, in store parking lot axle broke on my 96 850.
as in wheel assembly pretty much separated from car with tire at a 45 degree angle and busted up the wheel well pretty good. WTH....

What sort of guessimate on $ to fix??

 

Sounds more like a busted ball joint. Hard to estimate, as this can damage a lot of other stuff (ball joint, axle, brake line, strut, etc)

 

The junkyards are full of 850's right now, so big major assemblies are pretty close to free. However, if it was a ball joint that let go, you may not have bent or broken the sorts of things you'd want from a junkyard. You don't want a used ball joint, for instance.
