Buy a 1269 mile 2012 S60 T5?
There's one for sale locally at a Toyota dealer's used car lot. Carfax said it's only been driven for 5 months. single owner. personal vehicle. Autocheck doesn't list anything different.
It's a 45 minute drive from me, so I haven't just casually stopped by to check it out. The ad pictures showcases the car well, but I did notice a maybe 2" diameter area near the front plate that has the paint flaked off.
Why would someone get rid of a car so early, other than possibly not being able to afford it anymore. No accident has been reported on the car. If I took it to be inspected pre-sale, would they be able to determine if it was ever in an unreported accident? To me, that's the only thing I'm afraid of with this car. Everything else seems like it could be resolved with the 3.5 years of warranty left.
The price is around $28.6k, well below the $35k msrp on this car. My 1998 S70 T5 has progressively been having minor issues, so I'm wondering if I should pounce on the deal. No one seems to have bought it in the last 10 days.

I read your post on the S60 sub-forum. From the few details given it looks like the Toyota dealer is listing it at full kbb retail price. Current trade-in value is near $26600. I would look to get it for something closer to $27750 if it were perfect. Now the issue with the paint and possible damage, I would have them repair it at their cost or drop the price even more.
Who knows why someone would walk away from the car after just a few months. Maybe repo, maybe disliked a feature, maybe they got a company car and didn't need it. Seems like it was driven very little in those 5 months. Hell, I can put that mileage on a car in a week if I wanted.
If you are planning on keeping the car long term and you drive average mileage (12k/yr), this car seems like a perfect match. Isn't the warranty 5yr/50000 miles? If this is what you are looking for (S60) seems like a good deal for nearly new one. However, overall it's an average deal since it's priced at what it is worth. But it is a good car. I would prefer the T6.

Based on my still owning my 1998 Volvo, I'm definitely a long term owner. I had a 1987 240DL that I kept for 13 years.
I guess I'm just leary of later discovering some accident that will cause issues that the warranty wouldn't cover. I know that's the case with all used cars, but the super low usage of the car just makes me wonder ...
Wholesale used is $22k without options. With the navigation, moonroof, etc, this is probably $24k wholesale. Someone suggested using this info to make an offer rather than using the blue book guides. Any thoughts? My last car was bought straight off ebay, so there was no negotiating.
