Change your old fuel filters...
I just changed my fuel filter on my 97 T5, quick and easy job...
Fiddling with the old one I get an empty bowl to pour the remaining fuel into, then to my mobile gas can...Poured fuel into bowl to see it is a greenish color, very lucid. I could easily tell there was a greenish hue, compared it to the color of the spare gasoline in the gas can , which was clear, there was an immediate difference in color.
My car has a little over 110K miles and this is the first the filter has been changed.
Moral of the story: CHANGE your old fuel filters. Got a Bosch unit from FCP, same one that comes with our cars from Volvo.
