This began about a month ago.
After removal of key,

• I open a door and the chime comes on,
• Close the door and the chime stops.
• In rare instances the chime will not come on when opening the door, but problem returns next time I insert key.

I'm guessing there is some kind of cam in the key housing that normally drops down when the key is removed and so the chime won't sound when the door is opened.
It is likely that some **** has built over 25 years and that is preventing the cam from dropping after the key is removed.

Has anyone here had experience removing the lock mechanism and cleaning it up successfully?
(This is a 1998 V70, but I imagine most all the Volvo steering column key-lock assemblies are the same.)
