HELP! I broke the only key that I have to my 1989 240DL. The key can not be mended (JB Weld) back together to make a duplicate at the local hardward store. Anyone got any suggestion as to how I can get a new key for the current door lock and ignition?

Call dealer
I got to keys for 20 bucks when I bought my 240.
Had them in hand in two days

or you can remove the front passenger side door lock and take it to a locksmith. That lock has the code that they can make any key for the car from if they have Volvo key blanks.
