Default Clearing maint lights

My buddy just bought a 2006 S-60. He had the oil changed and even though he did that, a maint. required/reminder light is now on his dash. Is there a way to clear this light. It's not a check engine light etc, just a reminder light. I'm sure this info is here somewhere on the forums, but can't find it just now. Thanks.

I can only assume that you need a Volvo resetting tool. I am not sure if these scanners would turn off the SRI.

Pep Boys wants $89 to read and clear DTCs and somebody else said Volvo wanted $150. For about the same money you can buy a PPC diag/reset tool direct from Sweden.

Note it doesn't work on 2007 and newer Volvos. I guess they had to change the protocol so stealerships could continue gouging consumers.

Oh, and the guys at Advance Auto Parts said they'd let me borrow a generic OBD2 tool if I wanted to try and clear them with that. They said for liability reasons they only read them for customers, but that's free too.

I always liked those guys.

Their PDF is also an excellent source to lookup Volvo trouble codes. Just so you know you're not being charged $2000 for a tranny rebuild when all they really did is replace a solenoid.

Vadis has a conversion table for generic OBD codes/scanners, but nothing beats using a proper Volvo diag tool IMHO.

I think this is what the OP was looking for:

If that doesn't do it, use the search function.

I have a 2005 S60 T5 and use this procedure. It has worked for me.

Service Light Procedure

Move key to first position
Push trip odometer button
Move key to 2nd position
Wait for service light to flash and then release
Move key to off position
