Default Could anybody promise me that Volvo is good?

Hello Everyone,
I have seen Volvo all over and I have admired owning one for years but
since I haven't tried it before I need some assurances. Could anybody promise
me that Volvo is a good car?

Honestly no one can promise anything! It is a mechanical thing..... Things WILL go wrong and things Will wear out .Sometimes cheap fix, sometimes expensive. As long as you maintain it, you should have minimal issues, but then again, I have seen HONDAS that were serviced by the book, break down repeatedly! You want a Volvo because your admiration wants you to own one, not because someone told you it was ok to have! I just recently got mine and it was because of the admiration. I finally jumped in, but I looked for the best possible car I could afford. I hope that my 97 850 is as reliable as most cars I have owned.

While keeping in mind what Somthgfrce said, the only models that I would definatly hesitate to call unreliable are the '99-'01 models.

Looks: Good.
Performance: Good.
Reliability: Good.
Price (used cars only): Good.
Cost of repair: Not much different from other imports, excluding exotic/outrageously pricey luxury cars.
Overall: Good.
Plus: There is a great Volvo forum where people provide you with answers, alternative, procedures, recommendations or pages from the factory manual. The name of the forum is, well, you're here.

I can only promise this: Volvoforums.com is THE BEST.

And we even try to help the owners of other makes/other industrial products as well.

Volvo the car or Volvo the company? The former is good, the latter is toast.

For 45 grand they should of thrown in a USB to OBD2 cable and some software for my laptop. That's my biggest worry with Volvo actually... what if my local dealer goes out of business? Forcing me to go to the dealer for software updates was a big mistake. It makes buying a new Volvo way too risky for me.

Default Promises Promises.....

Nobody can promise you that a Volvo is the best car for you.
I can say I have owned quite a few cars in the past. My '02 s40 turbo is the best, most fun to drive car I have ever had...I promise!

A car is as reliable as you make it...put of servicing and maintenance and ALL cars will punish you. You get what you put in.

Regards, Andrew.
