Diagnostic cable
What do you think of this idea, a PC based code reader? Would it be better than just a regular OBDIIreader?

RE: Diagnostic cable
Depends...I think you'd find that particular device lacking but overall, yes....a PC based OBD II reader is better than the regular ones. I've got Tekmate OBD-II scanning software in a tablet PC i installed in my car as a permanent fixture. The nice thing about it is I have the option to display 5 out of maybe 25 different gauges on my display. I can also run 1/8 mile or 1/4 mile accelaration trials and dyno testing. Because it's a PC and becasue the program I got has a recordable graphing option I can print out data regarding a specific point in time where i had a problem. Not only can I clear the trouble codes with this softwear but I can also give the ECU manual comands to tune some of the fuel trim ratios and shift point information....I haven't gotten that far in my understanding but the option is there. A completely unrelated advantage to a PC based scanning tool is if you choose to hardwire it into your car like I did you can use any media player out there to send mp3s to your stereo system...huge bonus in my book!
The biggest bonus of my particular set up is I have WIFI installed on my PC...I can go on-line and get the manufactorer updates useing my buddies log in information. SWEET...there's $150 saved every time the check engine light comes on!
