Looking at getting a V70 in the near future and I'm not sure which would be better for my needs a GLT 2.4 turbo or the Turbo with the 2.3 turbo. I'm assuming basically they are the same engine just the 2.3 having less bore for high pressure turbo reliability. I'd be using this as kind of an SUV hauling me a and two buddies hauling a trailer with our 4 wheelers on it. Total weight of trailer loaded about 1500 lbs which should be ok and then also camping and things of that nature. I was thinking maybe the 2.4 would be better and more reliable since it has more torque down low and might be better on the car but have no experience pulling anything with a turbo engine. Also I would be looking at around an 01 or 02 whenever they started using the 5speed auto. I know many have said 98 is the better year but does anybody know about after 01 did they get better again? I've had a few s70's and s40's as rental cars around 00-01 and thought they were great but of course that was when they were new how do these cars age such as body stiffness, squeaks, suspension and such.

 

The 2.4 turbo is a better choice. You've heard right, the '98 models are great, the '99-'01 suffered a little bit, and then the '02 models became great again.

 

Yes 98 is the best.

As far as the motors either one will be fine they are basically the same motor.
