Ethanol in Volvo's
I called Volvocars Australia today and asked them if E10 fuel ethanol blend was ok for my Volvo, the man on the phone, said it was ok for use in all post 1986 Volvo's, i then asked him if the same applied to turbo models, he said that he was not sure and to call my local dealer and ask, he said the he thought that being a turbo it needed premium 95-98 octane.. premium fuel
So i call the dealer, first they tell me that you can not use it, it will damage the car...2000 models are not designed to run on ethanol, i then challenge saying that every website i go to volvo's are listed post 1986 ok for 10% ethanol use, the lady then gets my number and calls me back after 3 minutes, she spoke to the head tech at the shop....
This was his reply..
You can use ethanol in Volvo's but you may reduce the life of your o2 sensors, you may hear more pinging, you may have reduced performance, you may have higher emissions, you may have poor fuel economy, Everything i read contradict's the Tech's advise... what do you guys think..
will ethanol blend harm my v70 2.4t it still has the same octane rating or higher than regular unleaded..
Here is a web page on Ethanol in cars
