Default Fuel pump replacement due to ethanol?

I have a 2000 XC70...and the fuel pump went out. My mechanic seems to think it might have something to do with ethanol in the gas these days. The car has 123k miles on it. We replaced the fuel sensor about a month ago. Otherwise the fuel system seems to have been just fine until now. Anyone got any ideas?

I would think that unless you or someone else mistakenly filled up with E85, a diet of 10% ethanol (which seems to be in most fuels these days) shouldn't cause these parts to go out. I could be wrong though

Perhaps just usual wear and tear then?

I see alot of cars lately with some fuel problems which I think is coming from the 10%. But your car has pretty high milage so yes I would say normal wear and tear.
