ETM computer upgrade
Hello,
I am new to this site but have been investigating the ETM issue since mine failed last Sept. at various sites. I am wanting to determine if anyone has had experience with the following:
1) Have you had the updated computer software installed to "recalibrate the ETM"
2) Has anyone been able to explain to you exactly how the computer upgrade will affect the function of the ETM? Will it send different codes to the computer? I have asked my dealer and customer care numerous times what the upgrade will do and they can't tell me.
3) Have you had repeat failures of your ETM? Don Wilson at vexdvolvo.org reports that the current replacement part is failing as early as 7,000 miles with repeat failures common.
I appreciate you sharing your experiences with the above issues.
My personal experience with the ETM was having my car go into limp mode on a busy highway a thousand miles from home. I was nearly rear ended and had to drive along the edge of a busy road at 20 miles an hour until the car totally died. Anyone who has one of these cars should educate themselves as to how the ETM can fail. One of the best ways to do that it to read the information at vexedvolvo.org. I am hopeful that the upgrade will slove the problem but want reassurance.
Thanks

RE: ETM computer upgrade
I had my ETM replaced at about 75,000 miles. I have reached 78,000 a few days ago. No problems with the new ETM yet.
Mine happed in a parking lot at school and I had to drive an hour or so to have it fixed. This is what I assume you need the software for. Your old ETM went bad, so the software went with it. You need a new ETM, thusly you need new software to run it.
