Default Fan Running

I have a 2001 S60 and even after my ignition has been off for a while on my car, the inside fan will come back on and run for a long time. Sometimes it will cut off but other times it has killed my battery. Does anyone know what this could be??

Normal, if it is hot out the fab has a threshold temp that it starts at to cool the inside of the car for you. If it is draining your battery, the battery is probably on its way out.

Not sure where you'd find info about the running fan there but it's there somewhere. I also agree with Volvos Rock, if it's draining your battery, your battery is probably bad and needs to be replaced.

I know on my 2003 S60 there are two fans that stay on after the engine is shut down. One is the passenger compartment fan and it is used to dry the moisture out of the air conditioner so you don't get that musty smell.

The other fan is the radiator fan. I had my radiator fan come on and it stayed on and would not shut off. Thus it drained my battery.

I would check to see which fan it is. If you stand in front of your car and you hear a muffled fan sound it is most like the passenger compartment fan. If it is louder it is most likely the radiator fan. You can also open the hood to verify it is the radiator fan.

Both the fans should shut off within an hour. If they don't you may have a problem with the fan and not the battery. You will find lots of post about the radiator fan draining batteries.
