Fuel smell in cabin
I have a 99 s-70 GLT well maintained but recently it's developed a smell of gas in the cabin. There are NO leaks under the car around the tank or filler neck anywhere that I can see. I can't tell if the smell is coming off the fuel rails but again no leaks from under the hood but all looks good and dry or from a ventilation pipe that may have come off from fuel tank or sending unit or filler etc. anyone have any issues similar to this ? The car runs drives fine leaks no fuel and the smell comes n goes but I know this isn't right. I'm going to bring it to local shop for a diagnosis but wanted to see if anyone else might have a heads up so I know what I'm looking at as far as a repair ? Thanks
In my 2003 S80 there was a recall for the fuel pump. The pump would develop hairline cracks in the plastic at the pump discharge, which caused the symptoms you describe. I would smell it more at idle than while driving, but I definitely smelled it in the cab from time to time, even with the windows shut. I also never saw a drip or leak from under the car, since the fuel pump mounts on the top. I replaced the pump and all is well. Good luck!
I have resolved the fuel smell issue in the car, it was a rotting fuel filter that was emitting the smell. Replaced that today, along with some other minor repairs and found out that now the car needs a rear bussing to the cost of $575.. THEN on the drive home I made it about 15 miles and I believe the turbo blew with 175K on the car. I heard a air pop like an airshift then loss of power and acceleration then onto the flatbed tow truck and back to the repair shop... FML
