Question fuse keeps blowing

I have a s60 and was wondering if any can help me....my car keeps blowing the 5 amp fuse in position 38, this fuse deals with the car alarm and in addition effects the operation of the sunroof. I replace the fuse and everything worked okay...I went to open the sunroof and it would not open, I checked to see and found that the fuse had blown again! Any ideas as to why this is happening/what the cause is and how to fix it?? It obviously has to do with the car's alarm system as i get a message stating that i need to service the cars alarm system i only seem to get this message when the fuse is blown....any ideas of what i can do? thanks for everyones help it is appreciated! Carlton

#1, The alarm siren is a HORN. Not the same one that blows when you push the horn, a seperate one for the alarm.

#2, Sounds like you have a problem with your sunroof. Probably have a motor that is shorting out. Put another fuse in it, unplug the motor and see if it pops again. Even if you try to open the sunroof with the motor disconnected. Then plug it back in and open & close the sunroof about 10 or 20 times and see if the fuse blows.

Also, post this in the S60 section and you may get more help from other people that owns S60's.

talked with the dealership today......they said the the motor has a control unit as well and that the motor will run $387.47 and the control unit will run $219.42, so I guess that instead of guessing I will have to take it to the dealer let them diagnose it and potentially save me some guess work as well as money in the long run...even though I know/suspect that it could be the control unit and not the motor...not sure how to check it myself any suggestions???? thanks again!

According to the owners manual:
Fuse postion 38 is ONLY for the siren (5amp).
Fuse 34 is for the power sun roof (15amp).

i understand that.....but I have the fuse complete removed from slot 38 and my alarm system is still working and my sunroof IS NOT....not sure why??? so when I try to put a new 5 amp fuse into the 38 slot it blows immediately...what i am wondering is if the 34 slot is actually for the alarm and 38 is for the sunroof could this be possible??

I also want to say that is it possible that the siren circuit boad is gone and that is creating this problem??? I guess it would be possible that the battery has leaked and damaged the board and this is causing the fuse to blow...cause doesn't the circuit board operate both the alarm and the sunroof?? the owner's manual talks about the fuse and i quote: ****Please be aware that if this fuse is not intact, or if it is removed, the alarm will sound**** with that being said and me not having the fuse in at all and the alarm is not sounding, but still operates like normal that the board could now be the problem? its almost like a relay is in the open postion?? I am totally guessing at this point and would love to have some additional input to let me what i need to do! Thanks to all who are sharing their input with me....I really appreciate it! Carlton

yeah... sounds like there is a mix up some where in the print or the actual fuse layout.

I would try the 5amp in 34 and the 15amp in 38 and see what happens.

another member stated this in my other post in the s60 forum he stated:

Hi th siren will not sound when the panic button is pressed. I'm sure your siren module has failed, but since the fuse is burning out there is a slight chance that you have a shorted power wire instead.

I'd go ahead and replace the module to be on the safe side, since it is a high failure item and it causes many annoying problems when it goes.

A new module would run you about $190 and an hour or so in the garage.

Here's a good reference: http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/for...p?f=11&t=17479

The tamper bolt has a slight lip, so it is possible to remove it with a pair of pliers, eliminating the need to drill it out.

*****MY alarm works when i push the panic button so i am confused at this point???****

You may be able to get a good board at a junk yard for $25. Do you think you can replace it yourself?
