gas line freeze
hey there
so when it gets to be about minus 5 to 10, my 93 850 doesnt want to start up. it turns over and kind of goes then it dies. thought it was the battery, but its all good. normally i dont drive it in the northern winter here in canada, but this year i am, its awesome in the snow and ice.
Thinking it could be a frozen fuel line, because when it warms up weather wise or its around 0 degrees, 32 for my american friends, then its all good.
any suggestions?
thank you

well the easy way to remove the possibility of gas line freeze ups is to throw a bottle of gas antifreeze (aka isopropyl alcohol, which allows any water or condensation to mix with the full) in the tank with your next fill up. More likely you have fuel pressure regulator issue or a fuel pump that is on its way out. You'd need to do some tests for fuel pressure at the rail to see if all is normal. Also, what weight oil are you using? If you regularly seeing below freezing temps, you should be using 5W30 or 5W40. Synthetic oil also tends to keep its viscosity better than dino oils in the cold, so you could consider a shift to synthetic or a synthetic blend - but its recommended to use a high mileage oil which contain seal softeners before doing so with an older engine or you may see some leakage.

thanks for the reply. Im using high mileage 5 w 30 oil, good stuff. this problem actually happened last winter, just before parking it and we were hit with a bit of a cold snap, so im thinking its water in the line, the fuel pump is newer.
the car itself is minty, good runner. northern canada can be tough!
