Going to purchase an S80.. what should I know
HI EVERYONE!!!
Well I have made up my mind and I am going to purchase a Volvo S80. The S80 is in my opinion one of the nicest riding cars that I have ever been in. Not to mention it is also the safest car in the world. Now I just have a small question... what year in particular should I look at and to watch out for?

Look for 2002 and newer cars.
Look everything over really good.

Well originally I was looking at a 98 and 2000. Now do you recommend that I take the vehicle to a Volvo dealership to look over the vehicle? I know my dad is really good with cars but I think he is more versed with Benz's then Volvos lol. If you don't recommend me taking it to the dealer what things in particular should I check out?

I've owned an 02 S80 T-6...if your gonna go with an S80 go for the twin turbo Executive package. The turbos actually give it great gas mileage as well as give it great take off. Key things to look for in the S80 line is the brakes, alignment, turbo hesitation, and service records via CarFax.

As other have mentioned, get an '02 or newer S80. Also, don't even consider buying one without documentation that all service has been performed according to Volvo's recommendations. I've seen some S80s through our shop that have been neglected because the owners thought the scheduled maintenance was too expensive. Properly maintained '02 and later S80 are generally reliable, but neglected ones can get expensive quickly.
