Default Help! 99 S70 Serpentine

I'm about at the end of my rope - or belt - with the access belt tensioner on my 99 S70. I've pulled three conflicting instructions off the internet. Can anyone lend some wisdom? Thanks. David F.

Welcome to the site.

What's the problem? What are you trying to do?

Default My S70 issue

Thanks for responding.
I want to get the serpentine belt to move in order to install the serpentine accessory belt.
One entry I found says that the tensioner simply "moves" by applying leverage.
Another says I need a special Volvo tool or to I can fashion one, from a c-clamp, for instance, and that it will move the tensioner enough. Another says loosening the bolt on the tensioner will give it enough play to move. Another says remove the tensioner entirely - but that it's spring loaded and could fly off if care isn't taken. So I'm lost. This is the 5-cylinder non turbo, by the way.

If you are trying to remove the serpentine belt all you have to do is put something in the tensioner assembly hole and turn it to loosen the thing. Then you can pin it "open". Look at step 6 here:

What I do it use a plumbing fitting that fits in the hole, then I use a pipe wrench and turn it clockwise to get it loose, put a pin in it, then let the wrench go. I just did it the other day when I removed the belt to do my timing belt.

Default Tensioner

I dropped a mirror down there and now see that the tensioner even has a little arrow on it. For people like me, who might be too dumb to figure out which way to go with it.
