Panic mode, here. I have a 98 V70. Doing some front suspension work which I've done before, but it seems as if the half shaft will not go all the way in. I need at least another inch for the lower control arm to line up. It goes in to the point where it engages with the trans (and slides easily in and out) but the boot is distended and it seems as if it needs to go farther in.

Any help? I have a car apart in a place where I cannot leave it overnight.

 

I guess you see that you need to move the hub toward the transmission, to its normal location, and reassemble the front suspension. I would suggest you ignore the axle and put the suspension together. Use whatever force is necessary.

You don't pull the hub in the with axle, in other words.

 

Thanks for the help. The axle was preventing me from reassembling the suspension. Prior to getting your message, I did manage to get it fully inserted. I must have pushed just hard enough to get that circlip thing past whatever is in there. Everything went back together smoothly after that. I do appreciate your response, though, I was about at the end of my rope at that time.
