I need help, my fellow Volvo dudes
Hey Volvo dudes. I found this old gal, and I wanted to ask if this car is a good deal, or should I pass on it. The owner says the car won't go over 50mph due to the turbo needs replacing. Would a faulty turbo on one of these cause that ? or would it be something more serious ? If it's just a turbo swap, then I can fix this, but if it's more complex then maybe not. I found a genuine Mitsubishi 15g that would make for an great upgrade. I found this particular 15g for really cheap, it's in great condition, and it would be a sin not to get it. But I'd only go through with it if the car turns out to be good. So I just wanted to get your guys' opinion.

your link is not working and you don't mention the car's year/model, Given your reference to the 15G, I would assume you have an 850T. With that assumption - what do you see on the boost gauge? I'd be less inclined to think your performance issues are related to the turbo unit itself, so I'd suggest checking the vacuum lines which control the waste gate, the intake airflow (from the turbo to the intercooler to the throttle body). There are some good RobertDIY vids on Youtube that can talk to how to check boost on an 850T.
It's a 1991 940.
I'm interested in buying it but only if the issue is purely the turbo needing to be swapped.
I haven't owned a volvo since 2013. And i'd like to get back to my roots, so I figured it would be a decent project.
I know people swap out the standard turbo for the g15, and since an OEM turbo for a 940 is $1000 ! I thought I could do the swap to make a bit more boost, and save money in the process. I asked the seller about the boost gauge, and he says the gauge show that the car makes boost over an certain speed. Does that mean the turbo is still working ?
