Importance of octane and service engine light

Service engine light 02 v40 I just had my light come on it said 3 codes but nothing came up and I couldn't turn light off. Well, I put in 93 octane and problem was cured. Never realized how important the right octane was

Octane wasn't the problem.

Nothing came up because your scan tool is not completely compatible - try a better tool. And as others have said - Octane did not fix it.

have to ask - are you seeing the check engine light or the service interval reminder? I have a $29 Centek from HF that scans my 00 S40 just fine, but just to be sure, you can also stop by Autozone etc and see if they loan a fully featured scanner
