Default Knock sensor question

Can anyone tell me what the symptoms are for a failed knock sensor? My 2000 C70 will start & idle well but refuses to accelerate once it's warm. If not the sensor, any ideas? Could the alternator be at fault?
I just bought it and can't drive it!
Thank you!

Have you tested or replaced the engine coolant temp sensor? there are also temp sensors for the intake air preheat and a blend door that can get stuck where it pushes only the preheated air but that's less likely. Do you have a check engine light or have tried scanning for codes? I would not suspect knock sensors or the alternator. My check list would be engine temp sensor, air leaks on the intake (ie hoses/boots), fuel pressure (pump, pressure sensor/regulator), MAF or throttlebody...
