Default Make Key Fob Great Again

Classic volvo owner, but recently upgraded to a modern model with those keyless fobs.

The fob automatically unlocks the car within a certain proximity. I don’t like this.

Any users aware of how to disable or override the auto-unlocking functionality of the fob?

I only want the doors to unlock when deliberately pressing the unlock button.

It shouldn't actually unlock the car, it allows the car to be unlocked when you put your hand around the handle.

Not sure what year or model you have, but some have a setting to this happen to all doors or just driver's door I believe.

Exactly. If the key is near, the car unlocks if anyone puts their hand in the door handle. I don’t think that’s safe.

If I have my inside the house, but just close enough proximity to the car in the driveway, anyone could slide their hand through the door handle to unlock. I have no idea volvo thought this was a great default setting.

is there a way to disable?

Have you tested that it works with the key in your house? It doesn't even work with the keys on ny toolbox right in front of the car.

Yes. Honestly, the main thing I like to do is hide the key in the bumper while outdoing watersports. Sounds like I simply can't do that anymore?

No,I wouldn't do that unless you disable it. I still don't know the year or model so I can't tell you how.

I find it hard to believe the keyless function works with the remote in your house. The working distance is supposed to be about 5 feet.

Removing fuse 12 in the fuse box under the dash on the passenger side (left fuse box) should disable it. See your owner's manual, pages 363 and 364.

Hmm.. Good tactic. I think it's fuse 6. I'll try it out and report back. Appreciate your thoughts!

Fuse 6 should work too. Fuse 6 is for the handles and 12 is the module the system uses.

Tried removing fuses to no avail! I'm going to send Volvo an inquiry directly.

How about disconnecting the keyless antenna. There is actually more than one. If you look it up, you can find the locations.
