Maybe new Volvo owner
Guys, I'm looking to purchase an old V70 1997 - 2000 (petrol), that has around 200-300.000 km. (ca. 120-180.000 miles) on the block, but has been maintained properly. If I find one, what can I expect to use yearly on maintenance.
What about an S80 from 1999, that has driven 420.000 km (ca 260.000 miles) in yearly maintenance-costs.
Thanks a lot! I appreciate it!
Morten.

Morten- This has been discussed before and varies with how much you do yourself. I spend about $1000 a year on my '98 S70 keeping in very good shape, owned since new, do about half the repairs myself,
'99 S80's tend to be problematic. FWIW, my '05 S80 has only maintainence cost so far (aside from fog light replacement on a regular basis. I have determined that this is due to "driver error" rather than a fault of the car)

Morten,
I agree with Don. I too own a S70 98 Volvo, and my repair costs come out to about $500 - $1000 a year, but I do all the work myself.
Be careful with 98's, as I have heard that their transmissions can go bad around 130k miles (mine did).
If you take your car to a dealer, you will probably spend around $3000 - $4000 a year because they put top of the line parts on and charge really high in labor.
Example:
My rotors/wheel hub bearings went bad:
Cost to fix at dealer = $2700
How much it cost me to buy the parts and install myself = $370
pretty big difference

About the S80 '99. Does problematic mean avoid at all costs or...?
I've so far found one S80 that I'm looking at (at a Danish site).
This one for 9.025,81 $ @ 188 275 miles (it's the link to google translate just below)
Google Oversæt
The rest that are for sale within this pricerange (max ca. 9.000 dollars) is actually from 1999. There are some from '98 '00 and '01, but they are too expensive (around 13.000 $). It's funny - now that I know they can be problematic - that out of 10 s80's for sale only one is not from 1999.
If you take a look at the car I've linked to, you shouldn't worry too much about the price. Cars are really expensive here in DK and a new s80 '09 is priced at 108.526 $ for the cheapest model.
Thanks in advance, both for replying and for bearing with me and my silly questions :-)
