Default New Volvo owner (well maybe)

Hello all:

I am thinking of buying a Volvo. I am looking at tow of them. I know there is a bog difference between the two. The first one is a2000 S80 is fully loaded with about 2,000 miles left on warranty. It is in good condition, and I can get it for $6500. The other one is 850 T5. Turbo with 145kmiles. Sedan with Leather, Moon Roof, Automatic A/C, PW, PDL, CC, AM/FM Cassette and CD, Traction Control, Trip Computer, Power Seats, Alloy Wheels and more... Very good condition all around, I can get this one for $4000. The 850 is in good shape and I have not seen the S80 yet. I know the timming belt on the 850 was replaced at 70k or so and I have herd that they need to be replaced at every 70k. I do not know much about Volvos so I hope I can get some good feed back here and say I own a Volvo.

Thanks,
Anthony

Stay away from the S80 unless if it's free. I don't know about the other car. Since you ask, I WOULD NEVER BUY ANOTHER VOLVO. And I will talk my friends and family never to buy one, new or used.
My 2000 S80 only has 47K on it, but I'm currently over hauling the front suspension parts. And check enigne, STC, ABS lights are on now.. not mention all other previous problems like MAF and ETM. It's a piece of crap... stay away! I'm only on here for help so I can do most non-computer related repair myself. As far as dealer cost, you can expect a min $500 bill everytime you visit them. So never stop to say hi if you don't need to.

I would stay away from the 99-01 S80's because they are known to have transmission problems. My transmission on my 99 S80went bad two weeks ago at 114k milesand I had to spend $4000 dollars out of my pocket to get it replaced. If you want a S80 I would buy a 2002 or newer one preferably a 2003 to be on the safe side because the earler S80's are known to have a lot of bugs. The only wany I would by the 2000 is if the transmission has been replaced already and I mean replaced with a brand new one and not a used one but its your decision.

The 850 and the S70's are great cars and known as one of the best cars Volvo has ever made. The 98 S70's are great cars and are just like the 850. The 99-00 S70's have the ETM's (Electronic Throttle Body) but they are still a lot better then the 99-01 S80's.

I have a 2000 Volvo S80 that I'm extremely pleased with! I've heard people knocking this car, and I have to completely disagree with them. I get the routine maintenance done, the software updates completed, I have them look over the car occasionally and it's running perfectly.

I've got 64,000 miles on it and plan to put many more "Smile Filled" miles on there in the future. If you buy this car used, ensure that the previous owner got the routine maintenance done. If they did that, and you don't drive it like a corvette, it's a great car.
