Default Maybe another VOLVO?

I have the opportunity to get me another Volvo...this is bad I have one that isn't running and I may get another???

Anyway, When the timing belt breaks what most likely goes...the pistons or the valves? And would it be 'better' to rebuild or to replace...thanks. I was searching for an IACV and found a car that needs some work...new engine...Hmmmm

The Valves are bent. You might just be able to find a used head cheap and fix it.

Thanks Tech...kind of what I was hopin...If I wanted to buy some valves...is that a stealer only item? And since ur here...will the IACV from a 93 fit on my 94? I would imagine it would...not 100% certain...and it is horrible weather here so the pics I promised may wait till this icy rain is gone...and I may work on my horn today...haven't addressed it yet....

The idle motor might work I think as long at the plug is the same it should be fine.

You should be able to get the valves aftermarket.

Any Idea where? I am going to 'rape' this volvo some 60 miles from me and she wants $500 for the car...one owner and in good shape just the timing belt broke and a mechanic told her she needs a new engine...so I may see if she will part with it cheaper... Keep you advised...

Do you know where maybe you can provide the link...someone has posted a DIY for horn repair without spending $$$ or very little of it. I saw your post of the kit, but there is a fix out there with common stuff...

And first pull the airbag and steering wheel...what kind of torx bit are you using to get in there? My Torx drivers are too long... and my torx bits are to big...Thanks..

The Air bag is T-30.
I will try to find a link for the valves.

Tech...thanks for your time!
What position do you put the steering wheel at to gain access to the torx? Do I have to remove the kneeblocker or Cluster to gain access to the torx screws?

No you don't need to remove anything. Telescope it all the way out then turn the steering wheel so teh normal 3:00 position is now at 12:00. Then you can go right into the hole.

$500 for another 850 with blown head seems a good deal for me as you can use it asparts robbing, as long as you can tow it home. Volvo parts are expensive so if you can get this car it may be a deal, though certain components are not interchangeable in different models/years. And as previously discussed with Tech, you can also fix the head and have another 850. Then you can search for another 850 with blown head and use that one as a parts robbing source, but then you can decide to fix the 3rd 850 and you have a 3rd 850. Then, you can research further and find another 850 with blown.......[8D]

Ya I hear ya JPN...I found the biggest 'flaw' besides not running. My car came with very nice sheepskin seat covers...and it was a florida car so there are no heated seats...well, the passenger musta had hot legs and sweated, so the leather is deteriorated under the cover, just the cushion so there may be another part to rob. But I did just detail the interior, and tomorrow after the IACV I will buff out the paint and grab some shots for you guys. Very good forum and plenty of support. I'll try to contribute to 'pay back' for everyones efforts to get my ride movin...Thanks guys!!!
