Hey y'all! Just wanted to introduce myself and share my joy in purchasing a Volvo. My name is Alex. I am 27, and just recently bought a 1986 Volvo 740 GLE. It had one owner (married couple) that took METICULOUS care of it. They gave me a folder, bursting at the seam, with the past 35 years of service records. It's got about 135k miles on it, and almost no rust at all on the body or frame. With such low mileage and no rust (it being a vehicle from Maine), my guess is it was their Sunday driver. There are a few TLC things that will need to be done to make it really seem like it just drove off the lot, but mechanically it is sound. I love this car so much and I've only had it a week. It feels like I'm driving a sofa, and the interior smell reminds me of my grandfather's old crown vic from when I was a kid. Both my dad and uncle have owned many Volvo's over the years, so I know how dependable they are. Just wanted to share with this community in hopes of connecting with other enthusiasts... plus I may need some questions answered in the future. I still need to give it a good detail and bring the rims back to life a bit, but here are some photos:
haha, I didn't mean it like that! When I was young and he lived within a couple states of me, he had one that was mid 90s... I can't remember the exact year. But then, he moved down south when I became a teenager, and got what I realize now to be a Grand Marquis... not exactly the Crown Vic, but pretty close in my memory of his two cars.
It looks pretty good I think! The headliner upholstery has definitely seen some better days, and is falling down near the moon roof... so that will be a project for me to tackle in a month or two.
