Default Need mechanical advice ASAP

I just bought a Volvo S60 2001 on Saturday. I'm new to Volvo, I don't even know how to lock my doors or open the trunk.

The car is automatic, but it seems when it goes to switch gears, the mph goes way down, and the RPMs go way up and jerks. Sometimes, I push the mysterious "W" button in the gearshift and it doesn't do it as much, sometimes not at all, but the little warning light is orange in my dash. The stalling and jerking is what my truck did when the transmission went bad. Does this seem like I'm driving it wrong because I'm not used to it, or is it a tranny slip? The dealer refuses to take a look at it. Does this car that I'm going in debt for sound like a lemon?

Also, it makes a knocking sound on my road, a bumpy back road, but not on the highway. Any idea what it could be?

Probably needs a trans.

It's not a lemon.

The noise could be a number of things. Ball joints, tie rods, spring seats, seat bar links...

Is that hard to replace? Will a Volvo dealer have to do it or can any mechanic do it?

Thanks for the advice.

Don't go in debt buying a car that needs a transmission. The W button is for winter/slippery road driving. You should not need to use that button.
