The wife has mentioned that she "might" be wanting to trade in our 01 XC70 for a sedan. SHe likes the wagon hnd it is trouble free, but she is looking for a change.

That said, outside of the 850 and XC70, I am not up to speed on th pros/cons of various models.

I suggested a nice 850 Turbo, but she doesn't want a car that old.

So, between the S40, S60, and S80, which would you suggest.

I know all models seem to have quirks, but is there anything particularly good or bad about each model?

I wouldn't get the S80. Expensive to maintain and expensive to buy.

 

I would go newer V70 or S60 T5.

 

Well until this year I always thought the S80 looked a little on the plump side. However, the new ones are much better looking. Since I have an S60 I'm a little partial to them The S40 at first looked a little small for me but it has grown on me. Inside the S60 the interior room is good. Performance is acceptable and would be fine for her unless her name is Shirley Muldowney. So if you are not going with a new model then I would vote for the S60.

I'm not much of a help in this situation, but I really like the exterior design of S60. I really wish Volvo seriously consider re-designed 850 with a bit more interior room, a bit more aggressive front bumper, HID-projector, dual tail pipes, and more reliable PCV & electronics.
