Talking no speedometer function, antilock light on

go to the rearend of the car, & check speed sensor wires on the chunk inpection plate at rear of car, you probably got 1 broke.

your gonna need an allen wrench to get sensor of of chunk, being very careful not to strip the bolt & paper towels to clean sensor when you replace it

get the bolt out, & rotate the sensor to break the o-ring loose that is just inside the housing.

then check & fix your broken wire.

the chunk inspection plate is a plate that covers the gears for the rear axles of the car, its what powers the car, the chunk where you driveshaft thingy hooks to the axle thingy which the tires hook to, thats the rear axle & in the middle of the axle is a chunk thingy which has gears in it

Talking service engine light stays on

in your dash, you have a rubber plug, pull out this plug.

with switch in off position press this button, as you are pressing button, turn on ignition switch.

then turn switch off & release button.

unless you have something wrong with a sensor your light will stay off for about 5,000 miles or so.

havea nice day.

the rubber plug is in the instrument panel where your gauges are, thats where the plug is, behind the plug you will find the button

If your ABS module is out then the speedometer will probably not work. There are places like BBS Remanufacturing and others who repair the modules and they are easy to remove, if you have an E5 Torx socket.

So, an ABS sensor is around $110 so I went to a junkyard and pulled 4 of them off other Volvo's, non of them worked. I think it would be strange that all them are not working so I thought it could be my speedometer gear in the cluster is bad. I picked one out of another Volvo and installed it, still have the same problem everything works on my instrument cluster except the speedometer and the odometer and tripometer on the speedometer dial.
Could the problem be something else or does something need to be reset? Dieing to know before I spend $100 for a ABS sensor that may be fine or $50 to have the speedometer fixed whether or not it is even broken.

Thumbs up no speedo

like i saaid in the above article i wrote, this works, go jack up the rear of the car, being sure to scotch the front wheels not to roll & hurt something,

jack up the rear of the car, & look at the rearend of the car, the rear chunk plate that has about 12 bolts in it, it has a sensor mounted in the middle of it, this sensor has a 2 wire plug, plugged into it, with a wire loom covering the wires, peel back the wire loom & check both the wires, 1 of these wires is broken & you will have to splice it back together, your speedo will now work again, if you want to check if this was the problem, before you let your jack down go try cranking the car & putting into gear, did your speedo work now, if it did, please tape the wires really good, being sure to tape the wire loom onto the plug that plugs into the sensor, these wires take a lot of abuse, due to road conditions.

keep that volvo running, i really love the one i bought my wife:

1989 volvo 760 turbo wagon
