Hi all... Wondering if anyone can help here... Got into accident about month ago. Right front side had damage. Needed new radiator, etc... Nothing too major... However, after getting car back repaired from mechanic 4 the insurance, noticed a slight piercing noise from over the right wheel well. It is coming from inside the engine. The nosie cannot be heard when in the car but definately when standing outside by the right side. The mechanic said it is probabally coming from the steering but after adding fluid he still could not remedy noise. The mechanic said he could not stop the noise but the car would be fine..shaddy.. I know... Anyway, insurance won't cover car to get looked at by Vovo dealership so here I am wondering if anyone had an idea.. thx...

 

Does the sound only occur when the wheels are turned? You might have some air in the line/bottle. Check inside of the reservoir and see if the return pipe fitted inside is below the fluid level.

 

It is a constant noise. It is there weather the car is idling or moving...

 

You also do not say what type of car it is.

Is the fluid low?

If it is a S60,S80 or V70 it is also possible the fluid bottle is bad. Where the small hose attaches at the top inside the bottle there is a tube that goes to the bottom of the bottle. At times the tube falls off and makes the system airate causing noises.

 

Sorry, it is a 2006 s40.. I replenshid the fluid and still the noise remained.... pretty baffling...

 

Well the 2006 S40 has an electronic power steering setup. The electric motor might be what the problem is.The motor is also mounted on the R/S front of the car like inside the R/F fender.

 

that sounds like it may be the problem... It is definately a mechanical sound coming from that part of the car.. thx for all your help.. I will investigate further...
